Thank you for re-electing me to serve as your state representative. I appreciate your continued confidence.
I also have also been elected by my fellow representatives to serve as the House Republican Caucus chair. We recently held a caucus retreat where we set priorities for the coming year. These include a continued focus on funding for education and teachers as well as greater accountability measures for all government spending.
I also will serve this session as an assistant majority whip. The job of the whip is to maintain communication between the leadership of the party and its members, rally support for legislation on the floor, count votes on key bills, and help orient and acclimate new members to the state Legislature.
We have 46 new members in the House of Representatives this year. This is the largest freshman class, the largest Republican class in state history – 77 – and the largest number of women ever elected to the state House – 23. It’s a historic time.
The Legislative session starts Feb. 4. I will keep you updated on our progress. In the meantime, I hope you are each enjoying a good start to the New Year.
God bless each of you,
Representative Tammy West
